🌿 Feeding Your Roses for Success
Roses are eager to grow and flourish, and like all plants, they benefit from a steady supply of nourishment to help them reach their full potential. Regular care ensures they stay healthy and vibrant throughout the season. When properly fed, they’ll develop strong, deep roots, lush, healthy leaves, and, of course, those beautiful blooms.
Suggested feeds:
- Westland Rose Food – rich in horse manure to improve the soil structure
- Vitax Organic Rose Food – a traditional formula, containing the three major plants foods – nitrogen, phosphate and potash
- Miracle-Gro Rose & Shrub – contains Humifirst which is rich in organic matter – stimulating growth, yield and root formation
- Miracle-Gro Rose & Shrub Continuous Release – Each granule has a coating that controls and regulates the release of nutrients, only releasing them when conditions are right for plant growth

Rose Care: Hints & Tips
- Location and sunlight: Choose a spot with good air circulation in full sun
- Water well: Once or twice a week in dry weather is better than little and often. Water at the base, not over the leaves.
- Deadhead regularly: This encourages more blooms and keeps your plants tidy.
- Prune in early spring: Remove dead, damaged or crossing stems. For bush roses, cut to an outward-facing bud.
- Watch for pests: Aphids, black spot and mildew can be tackled with regular inspections.
Rose Awareness Week is a celebration of the joy that they bring to our gardens, who come and explore the varieties available at Gordale.
