Our range of spring flowering bulbs are arriving daily and this year we have a new collection of layered planting bulbs – so let us show you how to plant a bulb lasagne!
Just like the pasta dish, this technique involves layering potting mix and bulbs in a container to create a beautiful display that will bloom from February to June.
What you will need:
- Spring Flowering Bulbs

Select bulbs that will grow at different times, ensuring that the latest flowering bulbs are planted at the bottom.
The beauty of Taylors Layered Planting Bulbs is that they offer a selection of varieties specifically chosen for each layer. These include:
- Top – Ivory Princess crocus or Pixie iris reticulata are ideal for the top layer
- Middle – choose Martinette narcissus or Pink Pearl hyacinth for the middle
- Bottom – Backpacker or Julius Caesar tulips should sit at the bottom
Taylors Layered Planting Bulbs are £5.99 each or 3 for £15.
2. A suitable container
Ideally, the container needs to be 30cm in diameter and have a least one drainage hole. We stock a variety of terracota and pottery containers, from timeless and elegant to modern and trendy.
3. Potting mix
Our recommended product is Westland Bulb Planting & Potting Mix (£3.99). It’s specially blended to support the growth of bulbs with added grit to ensure there is free drainage plus a perfect balance of nutrients.
4. Trowel
A gardening essential! You’ll discover an extensive range of top quality garden tools at Gordale. We’re very proud to have been selected as a GARDENA Ambassador Store, showcasing the very best that the brand has to offer. Therefore, our recommended product is the Gardena Hand Comfort Trowel (£9.99).
5. Gardening Gloves
We stock a selection of Town & Country gardening gloves for men and women, suitable for various tasks from planting to pruning and watering to weeding.

TIP: Top the container with seasonal bedding plants to add a splash of colour during the autumn months
